If you ever get comments or feedback about an interview feeling a bit static, amp the energy with a camera slider move
“Hey Ian, can you help us understand why you’re suggesting using a slider? Would that be too much?”
In an earlier post, I explained the importance of having a second camera, a “B Camera” when filming interviews. A “B Camera” shot is typically locked off and is important to have to compliment the wider “A Camera” option. If budget is available, we can make that “B Camera” more interesting by making it move dynamically during a shot.
Take for instance a direct-to-camera only message: this option can help to keep audience attention during a normally long and static one-shot by keeping it moving and eye-catching. You also get options to cut dialogue between the two shots as needed, especially if no b-roll is being used.
If you’ve already filmed the segment without a slider, no problem! It can likely even be adjusted in the editing phase!
