Here are a few options to consider when shooting various angles for corporate interviews
When it comes to corporate interviews, there are many ways you can capture your subject on camera. From a video production standpoint, let’s talk about the importance of multiple cameras.
“Hey Ian, can you explain why we need 2 cameras for the shoot?”
This is a question I get quite frequently and it mostly comes down to budget. Why do we need two cameras when we can have just one?
For most scenarios, you can get away with a main camera, what we call “A Camera” (or A CAM for short). This often showcases your subject in a wider shot and gives us a sense of the space they are in.
I always recommend having a second option, a “B Camera” (or B CAM for short). This is typically a closer shot that is set up at a different angle complimenting the “A Camera”. This gives you another angle to showcase the talent and put them into perspective with objects behind them.
Having this option is great to have for a variety of reasons: it allows us to have dynamic cuts to keep the video moving in the instance no b-roll is available to showcase. We are also able to remove words or rearrange sentences.
There is also the possibility to have A CAM zoomed/punched in to simulate the look of a cut. This is a nice solve when no other camera is available, but ends up looking less cinematic.
While it’s not always necessary to have two cameras, having it gives you and your client peace of mind about what can be done after other parties review the content post filming.
So what are you waiting for? 1 camera, 2 cameras, 3 cameras, MORE!
