Ever wondered what goes into creating patient testimonial videos? I’m excited to share with you some behind-the-scenes photos from some of my favorite documentary-style projects.

In these photos, you’ll see a range of scenarios showcasing what goes into video creation. First, it’s about immersing myself in the subject matter and the patient’s life. For healthcare and pharma clients, this often focuses on a patient sharing how their life was turned upside down by a seemingly incurable diagnosis. Often a treatment becomes available for a patient and we want to share their positive results so they can spread the word to others who may need help.

The next step becomes about creating a vision, developing a story structure, and outlining the key points that we want to cover. This is where the backbone of the video comes together. From there I produce travel plans, potential shoot locations, and the patient’s activities we want to film to compliment the interview.

Next comes the production phase, which involves shooting on location and conducting interviews. I like to spend time showing the patient in their day-to-day life, intimately capturing moments to make it feel authentic and genuine to the story we want to tell. It’s more important than ever to capture footage that is visually engaging and captures the viewer’s attention with visual aids that help relate to other patients who may be going through this same experience.

In the end, we don’t end up with just a video, but a “film.” While challenging, it is ultimately a rewarding process that requires careful planning, attention to detail, and passion for storytelling.

I hope these behind-the-scenes photos inspire you to explore patient testimonials and the power it has to create positive change.
